Mindfulness at school reduces likelihood of depression

Recent studies have shown that teaching mindfulness at school reduces the likelihood of depression related symptoms in adolescents.

Mindfulness training – we hear a lot about it these days. Mindfulness is officially taught in psychology courses now, and gaining popular support in a variety of communities and cultures. Incorporating mindfulness into our public schools would be an excellent next step for this country. Recent studies (LINK) have shown that teaching mindfulness at school reduces the likelihood of depression related symptoms in adolescents.

This makes sense if you understand that depression is often the result of negative downward spiral thinking about past events. By remaining focused on the present moment, which is what mindfulness is, the self-defeating pull of depression can be avoided.

Hypnosis is an excellent tool that you can use to train, or condition, your mind to stay focused on the present moment. Whether you use self-hypnosis or listen to hypnosis recordings prepared by a professional hypnotherapist, such as myself at Intuitive Hypnosis, you can successfully reduce the likelihood of experiencing depression related symptoms regardless of your life situation.

There are many options available when it comes to mindfulness training, each with the same result in mind – to be at peace with what is, to remain focused on the present moment, and learn to accept. Hypnosis can help you develop that discipline, and maintain the peace of mind that comes with staying present. Give it a try, you’ll be glad you did!

Hypnosis and Motivation to Exercise!

May 1st, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

We have all heard the old adage, “Getting motivated is easy, staying motivated is the hard part!” This is true whether we are talking about motivation to eat right, exercise, get up early, quit smoking, think positive, and so on.

Why is it that we cannot seem to stay motivated to do the things we want to do? We know that what we want for ourselves is better for us than what we are currently doing, or not doing. We know that we will be happier in the having of, or the doing of, what we want. So what gives? How can we successfully maintain that initial excitement and motivation we feel when we first get excited about making personal change? » Read the rest of this entry «

Hypnosis and Sports Performance

The largest percentage of clients coming to visit me at Intuitive Hypnosis in Portland, Oregon for sports related requests, tend to be those wishing to improve their golf game. However, hypnosis can be equally useful with all kinds of individual and competitive sports. I have worked with clients who successfully improved their performance levels in competitive ice skating, triathlon, varsity softball, horseback riding, K-9 competition, and more. The most successful of clients and athletes also tend to be those who have learned to “see” themselves as successful.  They have learned to master the psychology of their individual and/or team sport. » Read the rest of this entry «

Using Hypnosis To Keep That New Year’s Resolution

December 28th, 2011 § Comments Off on Using Hypnosis To Keep That New Year’s Resolution § permalink

If you’re like most of us, at some point in your life you’ve made a New Year’s Resolution, but didn’t keep it despite your best intentions. January is a busy time of year at the office of Intuitive Hypnosis because many people have discovered that using hypnosis greatly increases their chance of success in keeping those resolutions.

The difference between making and keeping a resolution can feel like a constant battle between our conscious mind, with all it’s desires and positive intentions, and our subconscious mind, full of programming and conditioned responses. It’s easy to get frustrated when we lose the momentum we started out with. Hypnosis provides the opportunity to bridge the gap between the conscious and subconscious minds. Using  targeted suggestions in a relaxed mental state, you can take control of the programs in your subconscious mind and create the changes you desire. » Read the rest of this entry «

Can I Lose Weight with Hypnosis?

October 25th, 2011 § Comments Off on Can I Lose Weight with Hypnosis? § permalink

Weight loss is one of the most common reasons clients come to Intuitive Hypnosis of Portland. It’s often the “last resort” for those who have tried diet after diet either having great but short term success, or, no success at all. They ask what my success rate is and I tell them that regardless of my success rate, they can increase the odds of their success if the following statements are true for them.

  • I am willing to change my behavior to achieve my health and fitness goals.
  • I am willing to give up the benefits of being overweight.
  • I have a plan and I’m ready to implement it; or, I would like your advice about developing a plan that will work for me.
  • I am willing to clean out my cupboards and purge any foods that are not part of my new eating habits.
  • I am willing to participate in some kind of exercise routine at least 5 days/week, forever.
  • I want to be healthy and fit, and I will do what it takes to achieve that goal. » Read the rest of this entry «
