You may be interested to know that we all experience self-hypnosis several times each day. Wouldn’t it be nice to be aware of the ways in which you are hypnotizing yourself, so that you can deliberately choose which habits and behaviors are running the show? Learning how to use self-hypnosis deliberately can do just that!
When we talk about hypnosis, we’re talking about the co-mingling of the conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind, as if there are two minds. Well of course there is only one mind, and so it’s more accurate to speak of conscious processes and sub-conscious processes. A conscious process is something you do, or think about, consciously. Conversely, a sub-conscious process is something you do automatically, kind of like being on autopilot. Hypnosis is a process of bringing the two together so that you’re in charge of those automatic behaviors. » Read the rest of this entry «

Hypnosis is a safe and effective means of changing habits, whether your desire is to eliminate a disempowering habit or create an empowering one. Your sub-conscious mind does not care, or even evaluate, the benefit or detriment of your personal habits. It is simply a warehouse of programmed, conditioned behaviors. Hypnosis gives you access to that warehouse. It’s simple, it’s easy, and it’s fun to discover how effectively it can be used to program your sub-conscious mind to behave the way you want it to.
Hypnosis – What is it? How does it work? Is it real? These are the questions I answer every day in my practice at Intuitive Hypnosis, and in casual conversation with friends and acquaintances. I am fascinated with the process of hypnosis and how it can be utilized to create change in our lives, and I welcome the opportunity to talk about it every chance I get.
Let’s start with a brief definition of hypnosis. I define hypnosis as “a deep state of relaxation with a targeted focus.” The reason for using hypnosis is to bring about desired changes in our thought patterns, behavior, and experience. » Read the rest of this entry «

When it comes to healthy eating and maintaining weight loss, the holiday season can be the most challenging time of year for many people. Improve your chances of success by identifying specific situations that you find most challenging. Is it the annual office party; the abundance of sweets and treats in every direction? By planning now and incorporating hypnosis into your strategy, you can enjoy the holidays and easily maintain your weight into the New Year.
School has started and Halloween is just around the corner. The Holiday Season is upon us. It seems like this is the time of year when we are most vulnerable to excess food availability and increased social gatherings. This is the perfect time to plan a strategy that will allow you to enjoy the holiday season without gaining a pound! It’s all about planning; pre-paving the road that will take you into and out of the holiday season in style. It’s great if you can actually lose weight during the holidays, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. If you can focus on maintaining your current weight into the New Year, you’ll be ahead of the curve and will have created a strong foundation of health and fitness for 2013!
Hypnosis is all about habit change, and/or habit reinforcement. The idea is to make a plan and decide ahead of time how you want to handle specific circumstances in regard to holiday eating. Once you have a plan you can reinforce that desired behavior using hypnosis. Using hypnosis is a great way to maintain your focus on healthy eating in all situations by remaining mindful and focused on your long-term priorities. The key is to make that plan now for future success! » Read the rest of this entry «

Making the decision to give up the smoking habit can be one of the most important decisions a person can make. There is a big difference between wishing you didn’t smoke, and making the decision to quit. As noted in my article entitled Decision Making vs Wishful Thinking I give a clear explanation of the difference between these two states, and how the effectiveness of hypnosis correlates to which one you’re in.
For those who have made the decision to give up the smoking habit, hypnosis is an excellent way to make that journey easier, quicker, and permanent. Recent studies find that hypnosis is an effective smoking-cessation technique. (e.g. Can Hypnosis Snuff Out a Smoker’s Cigarette Habit?) » Read the rest of this entry «

The Law of Attraction is a topic that comes up with many clients in my office at Intuitive Hypnosis in Portland, Oregon. It is called by many names, the Law of Give and Take, the Law of Cause and Effect, etc., and has been known for thousands of years. Reference to the Law of Attraction can be found in a variety of spiritual/religious writings in a variety of cultures.
The Law of Attraction says, “that which is like unto itself is drawn,” and that our life experiences are the reflection of our thoughts and emotions. Our thoughts and emotions emit certain frequencies. According to the Law of Attraction, the frequencies we send out match up with like frequencies and come back to us as experiences, opportunities, and interactions with others. Many people believe that by learning to fine-tune our thoughts and emotions we can be the deliberate creators of our reality and have anything we want. » Read the rest of this entry «
